A Murder Mystery in the Making
A pirate airship docks at Opus. Since pirates love nothing better than a good cup of coffee, they head straight to the cafe, where Old Tom is holding court. As is often the case, Old Tom seems pretty lit on something, and he starts talking about the old days.
The locals and merchants are amused to hear him tell of his former life as a pirate, even if they mostly don’t believe him, and they gently egg him on. The pirates, suddenly quiet, seen intent on listening too.
“They’ll never find Blackheart’s treasure, no sir,” says he. “But I’ll let you in on a little secret: it’s right on this here island.” Tom breaks off from his storytelling to go outside “for a walk.”
The next morning, Tom doesn’t appear at the cafe at his usual time (the crack of noon). Someone is dispatched to his yurt to check on him. He has died in his sleep.
